Concrete pad questions we hear in Greenville
For a home AC condenser or a standby generator, the pad only needs to be a little larger than the unit’s footprint, but it has to be level and stable so the equipment sits true and drains away from itself. We size it to your unit and set it on a compacted base so it does not settle or tip over time.
Yes. A spa or hot tub pad carries a lot of concentrated weight once it is full, so we pour it thicker than a standard patio slab and reinforce it to take the load without cracking. We set it level and slope the surround so water runs off.
We do. Dumpster enclosures, loading pads, and equipment bases take heavy, repeated loads, so they get a thicker pour, a rebar grid, and a proper base. That is commercial work for us alongside our commercial concrete service.
A light-duty pad for a shed or an AC unit is usually four inches. A pad carrying a hot tub, a generator, or equipment gets five to six inches with reinforcement. The right number comes from what sits on it, which we confirm on-site.

How we pour a pad that stays put
A pad lives or dies on two things: the base under it and the reinforcement inside it. We do not skip either.

Size it to the load
An AC condenser and a loaded dumpster are not the same job. We match the footprint, the thickness, and the reinforcement to what the pad actually carries, so you get a base that holds without over-building it.
- Step : 02
Build the base and set it level
We compact a stone base so the pad has something solid to sit on, then form and pour it dead level. On Upstate clay that base is what stops the settling that leaves a pad tilted a year later.
- Step : 03
Reinforce, pour, and finish
Pads carrying real weight get rebar and a thicker edge; lighter pads get wire mesh. We place a 4000 PSI mix, finish the surface, and cut or tool the edges so the pad drains and wears clean.

The make and footprint of the AC unit, generator, or spa. That tells us how big the pad has to be and how thick to pour it for the load.

Where it goes
How our truck reaches the spot and which way the ground falls, so we can slope the pad to send water off it and away from the house or building.

What runs underneath
Any lines, conduit, or utilities near the spot, so nothing gets poured over that should stay reachable later.
