Towns we cover in Laurens County, SC

Laurens is the county seat, and the county Building Codes office at 100 Hillcrest Square handles permits outside the city and town limits. The City of Laurens, Clinton and Gray Court each run their own permit office, and Ware Shoals sends its permits to Greenwood County. In Cross Hill, confirm with the town office before work starts. Gray Court sits between Fountain Inn and Laurens on Highway 14, and a lot of the work around it is on rural land: long drives, farm access and outbuilding slabs.

Clinton became a mill town after the Clinton Cotton Mill opened in 1896, so old concrete coming up is normal there. Cross Hill sits just east of Lake Greenwood, where runoff shapes the prep on lots that fall toward the water.

The Cross Hill town office is at 539 North Main; confirm what your job needs there before work starts. Cross Hill sits where SC 39 meets SC 560, with SC 72 running past the north side, so a driveway apron built onto any of those routes falls under SCDOT's encroachment-permit process rather than the town's. Because Greenwood County owns the whole Lake Greenwood lake bed, including the shore on the Laurens County side, a dock, ramp or retaining wall that reaches into the lake needs a Greenwood County Lake Management permit.
