What you are looking at
New garage and shop slabs, replacement garage floors where the old one had cracked or settled, monolithic pours where the slab and its thickened edge go down together, and building pads for structures going up on top.
Tear-out is usually the honest answer
When a garage floor has settled or cracked through its depth, the problem is almost always under the slab, not on it. Coating or resurfacing covers that for a season and then telegraphs straight back through. These photos are mostly break-out-and-repour work for that reason.
Thickness follows the load
A slab that will see a truck, an RV or a lift is not the same slab as one that will see a car, and the thickness and reinforcement are set against what is actually going to sit on it. That is a conversation at the estimate, not an assumption.
Flat is a finishing job
A garage or shop floor has to drain where it is meant to and stay flat where equipment sits. That is done in the finishing, while the slab is still workable, and it is the part that cannot be corrected afterwards.
