How do you tell a repair from a tear out in Asheville?
Not every crack means the same thing. Plastic shrinkage cracks form in the first hours after a pour, while the concrete is still workable, usually as shallow parallel lines a foot or more apart that rarely go all the way through the slab. Settlement cracks are different: they show up when the base under a section of slab gives way, and the crack tracks where the ground moved. D cracks are different again, caused by repeated freezing and thawing acting on the aggregate inside the concrete, and they start at joints and show up later in a slab's life.
Reading which one is on the ground is why our estimates are free and done on site. A surface crack from finishing or shrinkage often gets restored. A slab that has settled, or one marked with D cracks from years of freeze and thaw, has to come out.
