Why do industrial floors need more joints than a driveway?
Concrete shrinks as it dries and cures, and an industrial floor has more area for that shrinkage to fight over than a driveway does. Contraction joints are built in to create a weak, planned line so the crack that shrinkage would cause anyway happens where it is wanted rather than at random. Isolation joints separate the floor from columns, footings and walls so each part can move independently without cracking the other. Construction joints mark where one day's pour meets the next, and on a large industrial slab poured in sections, where those land is planned rather than left to wherever the crew stopped for the day.
